Six Things to Know Six Weeks Before Election Day
1. In the last six E’town City Council elections, no one has won from the sixth ballot position. This year I have the sixth position.
2. I love this community. I wasn’t born and raised in E’town, but was blessed to come here late in life and it became my home very quickly. Having lived in other cities, large and small, in the South and Midwest, I believe I have a greater appreciation for this community than some who have lived here their entire lives.
3. My criticism of our city government comes from my affection for this community and my desire to make it a better place to live, work, and play. I want to ensure our city government follows its mission statement: The City of Elizabethtown will provide quality service to its citizens.
4. It’s easy to campaign on political catchphrases like transparency and responsible spending. That’s what many politicians do. It takes effort to talk about how to do it and give specific examples of changes. That’s what I have done. My positions and the actions I intend to take are clearly stated at www.JimShawForEtown.com.
5. Voters need to research all the City Council candidates. It’s not enough that they attend your church, work with someone you know, or have the most signs. What do they stand for? What will they do if elected? Have they actually shared any of that information? If they are already serving on City Council, have they taken the initiative to make changes or have they just reacted to what was placed in front of them?
6. Tuesday, September 22, is the autumnal equinox – the start of fall. Election Day is only six weeks from that. It will be here quickly, so begin preparing now.
